Bar Harbor To Novia Scotia Ferry Service Delayed Until July

BAR HARBOR, Maine - A ferry company has postponed a new service between Maine and Canada because renovations of the Bay Harbor terminal are taking longer than expected.

The company, Bay Ferries, had said it hoped to begin ferry service between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, by June 21, but now predicts the service can start in July.

The company says it will cancel, re-route or re-schedule all reservations prior to July 7.

The Bar Harbor ferry terminal has been idle since the company stopped service between Bar Harbor and Nova Scotia in 2009. The federal government mandated certain renovations before customs service could resume there.

Bay Ferries had been operating a ferry service between Portland, Maine, and Yarmouth for three years, but its agreement with the city of Portland ended last year.
