Appalachian Trail

At more than 2,000 miles, hiking the Appalachian trail is a daunting undertaking.  The Appalachian Trail Conservancy reports that only one in four who set off on the journey actually complete it.  What's it take to hike the A.T? We'll hear from the two hikers selected by Maine Public to hike the A.T. this summer (and test out the Maine Public App).  We'll also hear from experts with the Maine Appalachian Trail club to learn about its history, its upkeep, and what casual hikers should know about the trail.

Guests:  Danny Moody, sales consultant, Charlie's Chevrolet in Winthrop; and whitewater rafting guide. Danny is one of the hikers selected by Maine Public to document his AT experience this summer. He will be joined on the hike by his dog, Daisy.

Dan Giguere, outdoorsman from Manchester; Dan was also chosen by Maine Public to hike the AT this summer with his friend Danny.

Tony Barrett, two-term VP of the Maine Appalachian Trail Club (MATC) and executive committee member; he has thru-hiked the AT and has been maintaining a section of the AT in Maine since 2000.

David Field [calling in], author and well-known AT Authority within New England. He's held a multitude of positions both within MATC and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and is the former Dean of Forestry at the University of Maine, Orono.
