PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ The minor league hockey team from Maine's largest city has announced the resignation of its President of Business Development.

The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced Monday that it accepted the resignation of Brian Petrovek, former CEO who served in that role for 14 years before changing roles a few months ago to President, Business Development.

Petrovek said his departure gives the teams' management freedom to pursue a new path. He said that includes the team returning to its longtime home at the newly renovated Cumberland County Civic Center.

He said he looks forward to entering a new role as a fan, not a business manager, of the Pirates.

Managing partner Ron Cain commended Petrovek for securing successful relationships with National Hockey League and his business insights.
