Crews are working to restore power to homes and businesses around southern and central Maine in the wake of a storm that knocked out power to nearly 30,000 customers.
Schools in Brunswick were also closed on Friday as the work began. The powerful Thursday storm hit Cumberland and Lincoln counties the hardest. The Portland Press Herald reports that more than 9,000 customers remained without power on Friday.
The National Weather Service in Gray says it is considering whether to send a team to Brunswick to determine if a tornado touched down in the area. More than 2,600 customers in Brunswick were still without power on Friday.
