Mon 4/28 – LIBRARIES TODAY
Libraries may be best known for lending books, but they serve many other roles in communities and schools across Maine. We'll learn how libraries provide access to computers, job training, classes, help for people who are disabled, teen groups and more—services that are especially vital for rural areas. What would federal funding cuts mean for Maine libraries? This show ties in with the premiere of the PBS film, “Free for All: The Public Library,” on Maine Public Television April 29th.
Tue 4/29 – INVESTIGATING COCA-COLA (rebroadcast)
Journalist and author Murray Carpenter’s research and investigative reporting describes the damage Coke does to America’s health—and the remarkable campaign of disinformation conducted by the company to keep consumers in the dark. His new book is Sweet and Deadly: How Coca-Cola Spreads Disinformation and Makes Us Sick. (Original broadcast April 2, 2025)
Wed 4/30 – CANADA-MAINE RELATIONS: VIEWS FROM THE BORDER
Earlier this month, Canada's Prime Minister declared that the previously friendly relationship between the U.S. and Canada is "over" due to executive actions by the Trump administration. What about in Maine? We talk with residents and community leaders from Maine-Canada border towns to learn what they're experiencing. Some are worried about impacts to tourism and personal relations, while others cite positive interactions and support from both sides of the border.
Thu 5/1 – NOISE POLLUTION
Noise pollution is bad for humans. In addition to hearing loss, loud noises can also affect cardiovascular health, mental health, learning capabilities, sleep and more. It's not just major cities trying to grapple with noise pollution, the problem affects rural areas, too. We'll learn about the causes of noise pollution and how it affects our health. This program ties in with the film "The Quietest Year," which is about noise pollution in Vermont, and first airs on the Maine Public Film series May 1.
Fri 5/2 – POLITICAL PULSE
With the end of Maine’s legislative session in sight, we check in with our State House watchers for the latest on which issues the legislature addressed and which are still pending. We’ll also discuss national news—including the standoff between Maine and the White House over legality of executive orders and federal funding cuts.
