Maine Heating Prices Continue to Drop

PORTLAND, Maine - A state of Maine survey indicates the average price of heating oil has dropped 4 cents over the past week to the lowest heating season price recorded in three years.

The Governor's Energy Office said Thursday that the statewide average for a gallon of heating oil was $3.23 per gallon. A year ago, heating oil averaged $3.54 per gallon.

Heating oil prices are at their lowest in midsummer before climbing. This year, the opposite has occurred with prices dropping nearly 30 cents over the past 90 days.

The energy office says the average statewide price for kerosene, $3.78 per gallon, also dropped 5 cents. Propane prices dropped 2 cents to $2.84 per gallon for heating customers.
