Hiking in Italy: The Way of St. Francis
Hiking in Italy: The Way of St. Francis
On Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m., Camden resident Francis Boscoe will give a presentation at the Rockport Public Library detailing his experiences hiking “The Way of St. Francis” in Italy during the fall of 2025.
Many thousands of pilgrims walk the “Camino de Santiago” across Spain each year. Boscoe decided to select a similar, less traveled European pilgrimage. “The Way of St. Francis” (Via San Francesco), from Florence to Assisi to Rome, sees only a small fraction of the Camino visitors, yet has comparable amenities. Through photos and stories, Boscoe will recount his 333 mile walk through the central Apennines, and provide information to the audience as to how they too can follow in the footsteps of St. Francis.
Francis Boscoe is a geographer, musician, poet, and substitute math teacher. He has attended language-immersion school in Italy in each of the last three years, and has taught Italian for beginners through Five Town CSD Adult Ed.
