Maine Media & The Poets Corner announce 2022 Poetry Chapbook Contest

Maine Media Workshops + College is partnering with The Poets Corner in organizing a prize for poetry. The winning submission will receive a $1,000 prize and 20 copies of a limited edition letterpress printed chapbook. Open for entries from January 3- February 28, 2022. Winning chapbook will be selected by the distinguished poet, Naomi Shihab Nye. Nye is the author of numerous books of poems, most recently Everything Comes Next – Collected & New Poems (Greenwillow Books 2020) and Cast Away: Poems for Our Time (Greenwillow Books, 2020).

Her other books of poetry include The Tiny Journalist (BOA Editions, 2019); Voices in the Air: Poems for Listeners (Greenwillow Books, 2018). Transfer, You and Yours which received the Isabella Gardner Poetry Award; and 19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East. About her work, the poet William Stafford has said “her poems combine transcendent liveliness and sparkle along with warmth and human insight…Reading her work enhances life.” Nye is the Young People’s Poet Laureate of the United States through the Poetry Foundation.

The winning chapbook will be designed and printed in the Charles Altschul Studio for Book Arts in a limited edition, hand-crafted and printed on letterpress. The contest is open to all submissions. Poems included in submission may have been published in journals, but not in a previous collection.

The Poets Corner is a platform created to foster community among writers and readers of poetry and short prose. Founded by former Maine Media Workshops + College president Meg Weston and author/writing coach Kathrin Seitz, The Poets Corner is based in Mid-coast Maine, and hosts virtual readings on the second or third Sunday of each month.
