Roomful of Teeth Concert
Roomful of Teeth Concert
Join us at the Chocolate Church Arts Center on November 5 for an unforgettable evening of vocal virtuosity and sonic exploration with Roomful of Teeth. This Grammy Award–winning vocal band is dedicated to reimagining the expressive potential of the human voice, blending techniques from throat singing to yodeling, bel canto to beatboxing. The ensemble’s sound defies boundaries — at once ancient and avant-garde, earthy and ethereal. Audiences can expect a program that is both daring and deeply human, showcasing the breathtaking range of the human voice and the transformative power of collective sound.
Founded in 2009 by Brad Wells and incubated at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), Roomful of Teeth was born from a spirit of creative risk and relentless curiosity. Its members immersed themselves in the world’s rich tapestry of vocal traditions, studying with extraordinary singers and teachers from around the globe, and discovered that the boundaries of the human voice are far more expansive than anyone imagined.
“From the beginning, we’ve been driven by the question: What else can the voice do?” says Wells. “Through experimentation, collaboration, and plenty of trial and error, we’ve learned that every limitation can become a new possibility.”
Over the past decade, Roomful of Teeth has cultivated a growing body of work in collaboration with some of today’s most visionary composers, artists, and thinkers. Their repertoire bridges genres and disciplines, weaving together contemporary classical, folk, experimental, and global vocal traditions. The ensemble’s collaborations—spanning music, visual art, dance, and technology—have redefined what it means to create with the human voice.
