The beautiful picture book King of Ragtime, the Story of Scott Joplin will be the focus of Stephen Costanza's presentation. Engaging for all ages, this delightful event will explore Stephen's process of writing and creating a picture book based on the beloved American composer and pianist Scott Joplin. Costanza will share his inspiration and research, along with multiple original paintings and sketchbooks with the audience. He will play several Joplin ragtime tunes on piano, further illustrating his knowledge and passion for Scott Joplin's contribution to our musical heritage. He will also preview the just released book When Auggie Learned to Play Chess written by Meredith Rusu and illustrated by Stephen Costanza, which is already garnering critical acclaim!

About Stephen Costanza
Stephen Costanza is a Maine author and illustrator. His work has been recognized by the Bologna Book Fair, Society of Illustrators, and the Maine Library Association. He has been involved with multiple books for children, including three about music, Mozart Finds a Melody, Vivaldi and the Invisible Orchestra, and King of Ragtime. He studied music and composition, and for a time played piano professionally, performing both ragtime and classical music. He is a frequent visitor to schools and libraries, sharing his experience as a writer, illustrator, and rusty piano player. He lives and works on the island of North Haven, Maine.
