NPR’S Noah Adams narrates this planetarium program about the history and astronomy of the holiday season. What are the origins of the solstice festivals and Santa Claus? Why do we celebrate New Year’s Day on January 1st? What is the history of Hanukkah? “Season of Light” explores the rich and beautiful history of our holiday traditions.

The planning for our next Gardens Aglow is well underway, and we can’t wait to see you there! Experience this year’s theme, Nature in Motion, and see the Gardens come alive after dark. See the landscape transformed into a glowing journey through scenes depicting the flora and fauna of Maine’s forests, shorelines, and meadows—and don’t miss some fun new surprises in this year’s display!

The longest night of the year is a time to remember the unhoused friends we have lost this past year and to recommit ourselves to the task of ending homelessness. A candlelight procession will start at the MaineHealth-Preble Street Learning Collaborative at 20 Portland Street at 4:30 pm, and will proceed to Monument Square for a ceremony dedicated to the people who have died too soon in our community.

All people who are currently unhoused or unsheltered, who have experienced homelessness, who work with people who are homeless, or who are thankful they are currently housed are welcome and encouraged to participate.

The life expectancy of our friends who endure chronic homelessness is 28 years shorter, on average, than that of people who are housed. The human toll of allowing these vulnerable neighbors to slip through the cracks is devastating.

These deaths are the result of a broken system. As a community, we must come together to provide affordable housing and more Site-based Housing First programs, dignified and professionally-run shelters, and expanded services for physical and mental health and substance use disorders.

Together, we will mourn the lives that were cut short and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that everyone who needs a home finds one.

Open Mic hosted every Friday evening with Paul Connor. Great musicians, great music. You will see a wide variety of musicians each week. Paul is a very organized and talented musician. He always draws lots of new and seasoned talents. You will enjoy the family of musicians. Cherished Pub has great food & beverages available. Come enjoy all of the great music, have fun and relax. Join us for (one hour) Trivia in the brewhouse with our friend Megh. The questions will commence every Friday starting promptly at 6 pm. We recommend arriving early to get settled as missed questions are not repeated. Tickets are free but reservations are strongly recommended as we've been packed recently! Walk-ins are not guaranteed a seat, but we'll absolutely do our best to squeeze you in, if we can. If you are making a reservation for your team, please account for all the members of your team. Groups can be up to six players. Bite Into Maine will be here for all of your tasty dinner or snacking needs. As always we’ll have delicious beer, wine, cider, and n/a bevs flowing. We can’t wait to see you and your fantastic team names!
