A unique blend of folk with influences from bluegrass and old-time music.
From the northern reach of the Appalachian Trail comes the musical trio Darlin’ Corey. Drawing on the many threads of North American folk music, their elegant harmonies are the beating heart of their sound, in both their original music and the traditional Folk, Old Time, and Bluegrass music they regularly showcase. In Darlin’ Corey’s singing and playing, you can feel the many years of dedication to these celebrated musical traditions. Erica Brown’s fiddle-playing is at turns virtuosic and completely unpretentious. Matt Shipman is an ideal counterpart as his versatility on a dizzying array of stringed instruments (guitar, Irish bouzouki, 5-string banjo, mandolin) blend seamlessly, never timid or overpowering. Add to that Kris Day’s steady and tasteful bass playing and together they create an engaging performance of thoughtful originals and traditional songs and tunes that have influenced them along the way.

"Things That Make Us" - An Evening of New Dance Theater by Molly Lynch-Clark and Lailye Weidman. With her multidisciplinary ensemble cast, Lynch-Clark has devised an imagined space with science fiction-like flair. Facing an unknown future, the work asks, “What if a society were organized around shared humanity?” Weidman’s iterative solo project Other Refrains wrestles with the weight of ancestry and lineage, utilizing family gestures and embodied memories as a map to move through present times. Through storytelling, dance, and vocalization, Weidman weaves threads from her own family, while reaching toward collective reckoning with the things that make us. While drawing from distinct practices and aesthetics, both artists combine movement and text, engaging the idiom of “dance theater” from a playful and experimental approach. They both craft performances that are refreshingly relatable and direct, while also embracing visceral and unexpected languages of the body.

Lyric Music Theater presents Next to Normal. Weekends September 5-21, 2025, with ASL-interpreted matinee on September 14.
Next to Normal, an intimate exploration of family and illness, loss and grief, is an emotional powerhouse. Dad’s an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal because they are coping with crisis and the unpredictability of a mother’s worsening bipolar disorder. With book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Brian Yorkey and a thrilling and original rock score by Pulitzer, Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award winner by Tom Kitt, Next to Normal explores how one suburban household copes with crisis and mental illness. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Next to Normal was also chosen as "one of the year's ten best shows" by critics around the country, including The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone and The New York Times. Next to Normal takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family’s story with love, sympathy and heart.
Next to Normal explores complex emotional themes and includes moments that may not be suitable for all viewers such as substance use, grief, mental illness and self-injury. Recommended for ages 14+ with parental discretion.
