Gather as a community and enjoy the creative spirit of MDI at the Wendell Gilley Museum for the Museum's annual Community Open House & Art Show on Sunday, Dec. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m.. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.
We will have a special one-day-only exhibit of art created at the Gilley in 2024, everything from bird drawings by third-graders to bird carvings by long-time carvers.
Free and open to all. No registration required; just drop by!

Giordano’s passionate tragedy stars tenor Piotr Becza?a as the virtuous poet who falls victim to the intrigue and violence of the French Revolution. Following their celebrated recent partnership in Giordano’s Fedora in the 2022–23 Live in HD season, Becza?a reunites with soprano Sonya Yoncheva as Chénier’s aristocratic lover, Maddalena di Coigny, with baritone Igor Golovatenko as Carlo Gérard, the agent of the Reign of Terror who seals their fates.

Over the years numerous people have tried to explain the appearance of the Star of Bethlehem, as described in the Bible and other historical texts of the time. What was the Christmas Star? Could it be explained as an exploding star, a comet or some other natural celestial phenomena? Explore a variety of scientific explanations for the Star of Bethlehem in this family friendly program at the planetarium.
Come celebrate the Holiday Season with Horizon Voices, directed by Maria Belva. The youth ensembles, grades 2-12, present CLEAR HORIZON, a choral tapestry of both seasonal songs and concert choir repertoire including pieces by Victor Johnson, Allan Naplan, Ellen Foncannon, Jan Harmon, John Rutter, and Pinkzebra.
Beloved by generations, Magic of Christmas blends classic carols, contemporary favorites, and a dash of comic surprise. Featuring kaleidoscopic lighting, the mighty Kotzschmar Organ, PSO Children’s Chorus, Magic of Christmas Chorus, the full sound of orchestra, and Maine’s own American Idol star Julia Gagnon - bringing her powerhouse voice home for the holidays - Magic of Christmas is a must-see celebration that ushers in the season like nothing else.
The Augusta Symphony Orchestra invites you to celebrate the magic of the holidays with two performances at South Parish Church, 9 Church Street in Augusta. Join us on Saturday, December 13 at 7:00 p.m. or Sunday, December 14 at 3:00 p.m. for a festive program filled with timeless classics and holiday favorites.
Under the direction of Conductor and Music Director Jinwook Park, the ASO will present a concert filled with warmth, variety, and festive spirit. The concert begins with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2—a showcase of Baroque virtuosity featuring Sarah Heimberg (trumpet), Michael Albert (recorder), Anne McKee (violin), and Necia Enoch (oboe) as soloists.
The celebration continues with Tchaikovsky’s beloved Nutcracker Suite, bringing the enchanting sounds of the season to life—from the graceful “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” to the exuberant “Trepak.” Audiences will also enjoy Christmas at the Movies, a lively medley of favorite film scores that capture the spirit of the holidays on the silver screen.
To conclude the concert, the orchestra will be joined by singers from Coda Chorus for a rousing performance of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus—a triumphant finale that’s sure to lift hearts and voices alike.

Greater Freeport Community Chorus presents their Holiday concerts featuring “A Ceremony of Carols” by Benjamin Britten's along with songs and carols from around the world. The program highlights music from cultures and communities around the world and shows how music can help foster peace.
A free chess club open to anyone over the age of 10. All levels of experience are welcome. We have boards, but feel free to bring your own.
