Man Who Pushed Wife off Maine Cliff Nears Sentence

ROCKLAND, Maine - A former Maine resident convicted of trying to kill his wife by pushing her off a cliff in Camden Hills State Park is set to be sentenced in one week.

Charles Black faces up to 30 years in prison for his conviction of six felonies on July 21. The top charge in the case is attempted murder.

A jury convicted Black of hitting then-wife Lisa Zahn on the head with a rock before pushing her off an 800-foot cliff in April 2011. Black and Zahn both fell down the mountainside and ended up in the hospital. Black later moved to Utah.

Authorities say Black and Zahn had been arguing about Black's spending some of Zahn's inheritance, as well as about his infidelity. Sentencing will take place Sept. 25 in Rockland.
