ROCKLAND, Maine - A lawyer for a man convicted of pushing his wife off a Maine cliff says briefs in his appeal of the conviction will not likely be filed until next year.
A judge last month ordered Charles Black to serve 10 years in prison. A jury found him guilty of attempted murder earlier. Defense attorney Walter McKee is appealing the conviction and sentence. McKee says briefs in the appeal will likely be filed next spring.
The jury convicted Black of pushing his then-wife Lisa Zahn off of the 800-foot Maiden Cliff in Camden Hills State Park after hitting her in the head in April 2011. She survived, and they have since divorced.
Prosecutors said the couple had been in dispute about Black's infidelity and his spending some of Zahn's inheritance.
