Trial of Man Charged in Christmas Beating Death Postponed

ELLSWORTH, Maine - Defense attorneys want to postpone the trial of an Ellsworth man charged with the beating death of his wife on Christmas Day.

Police arrested Chris Saenz in the death of Hilary Saenz in December 2013 after her body was found in the couple's apartment when Chris Saenz called for an ambulance. Police say an autopsy determined that Hilary Saenz died of blunt force injuries.

A spokesman for the Maine attorney general says Saenz's attorneys are asking to postpone the trial to spring. The trial was initially expected to begin Tuesday. The attorney general spokesman says there will be no court appearance Tuesday.

Police say the couple's two children, ages 8 and 12 at the time of the death, are in the care of relatives.
