2 Maine Prison Escapees Have Been on Lam Since '70s

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine has two prison escapees on the lam, but there's not much being done to locate them. Both of the inmates escaped from the Maine Correctional Center in the 1970s.

A 50-state survey by The Associated Press found that there are more than 130 state prisoners on the loose in a coast-to-coast survey.

In Maine, the Department of Corrections says Raymond Bradford escaped in 1970 while serving a three-year term for breaking and entering in Washington County. The other, Jerry Dow, escaped while serving four years for armed robbery in York County.

A high-profile escape in upstate New York has drawn attention to the issue. Up to 800 federal, state and local law enforcement officers have been searching for two convicted killers who used power tools to break out.
