Blizzard Prompts LePage to Declare State of Emergency

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Gov. Paul LePage has declared a state of emergency as a blizzard hits the state.

The governor announced early Tuesday that all state offices will be closed because of the storm that could bring up to two feet of snow in some areas as well as high winds and coastal flooding.

LePage is urging Maine residents to stay off the roads.

Many schools and businesses had already decided to close on Tuesday and many cities and towns have banned on-street parking for the duration of the storm.

LePage also warned of "life-threatening" conditions and widespread power outages, although only a few dozen power outages were being reported early Tuesday.
