Maine Panel to Reveal Ocean Acidification Findings

AUGUSTA, Maine - Members of a Maine panel studying the effects of carbon dioxide pollution on the state's commercial fisheries are preparing to unveil their report.

The committee plans to present its finding and proposed legislation designed to protect Maine ecosystems on Thursday. The panel spent months studying ocean acidification to make recommendations on how the state should address it.

The National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration says the pollution - also known as ocean acidification - is a result of agricultural and industrial pollutants.

Officials say the 16-member panel is the first of its kind on the East Coast. It includes fishermen, scientists, aquaculture professionals, lawmakers and state officials. It is set to release its report during a news conference in Augusta Thursday morning.
