DOVER, N.H. (AP) _ A New Hampshire police sergeant and his K9 partner received a medal for bravery for apprehending an armed fugitive near the Canadian border earlier this month.
Rochester Police Sgt. Keith MacKenzie and his bloodhound, Daisy Mae, were honored Friday in a ceremony at Strafford County Superior Court.
Law enforcement officials say the team in 90 minutes found 38-year-old Jesse Marquis, who has been charged with shooting to death his 31-year-old girlfriend, Amy Theriault in St. Francis, Maine. Dozens of law enforcement officials had combed the woods Marquis, who was armed with a rifle.
MacKenzie, who is also a part-time Strafford County deputy, says he has been training 3-year-old Daisy Mae since she was seven weeks old.
MacKenzie says the medal belongs to Daisy Mae, and that he's just her anchor.
