Lincoln Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash

LINCOLN, Maine — Authorities have identified the victim of a late-night car crash in Lincoln as 19-year-old resident.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office says Nicholas Haynes was found burned near his crashed car at about 11:20 p.m. Saturday.

An officer tried to pull Haynes over earlier for having a headlight out, but the officer was unable to catch up with Haynes. About an hour later, Haynes' mother called police to say her son was missing.

Police investigated and found the wrecked car.

Haynes was a recent graduate of Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln, where he played basketball.

The death remains under investigation.
