SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ In South Portland, Maine, the weather may be campaigning for a city bond issue.
Nearly six inches of rain that fell this past week, flooding numerous basements in the city. It came just weeks before residents vote on a $3.5 million bond proposal for part of a planned upgrade to the city's sewer and stormwater systems.
City Councilor Tom Blake tells television station WMTW that concerns about climate change and rising tides also are creating pressure for the infrastructure improvements.
This week's storm followed one in August that saw part of Blake's waterfront property washed away.
