AUGUSTA, Maine - A settlement has been reached in a whistle-blower case targeting the Maine Center for Disease Control.
The lawyer for Sharon Leahy-Lind and Katie Woodbury confirmed to the Portland Press Herald that the parties agreed to terms of a settlement but said the details were confidential.
Leahy-Lind, a former director of the division of local health, says she was retaliated against when she refused to shred public documents related to a grant program. Woodbury, a current CDC office manager, joined the lawsuit. Their lawsuit sought compensation, punitive damages, legal fees and a declaration that they acted lawfully.
The parties met on Monday with U.S. Chief Judge Nancy Torresen. Eric Uhl, a private attorney hired to represent the state, said the parties have 30 days to complete the agreement.
