Outages Crop up in Maine as Blizzard Sweeps Through

AUGUSTA, Maine - More than 1,500 Maine residents and businesses are without power as a powerful snowstorm with high winds makes its way through the state.

Central Maine Power was reporting about 1,230 outages Tuesday afternoon. Most of those are in Lincoln and Androscoggin Counties. Another 360 Emera Maine customers, mostly along the coast, were without power.

A spokeswoman for Emera Maine said the strong wind was making it difficult for workers to get in bucket trucks to restore power. She said officials expect the number of outages to climb.

Forecasters say that snow is topping 15 inches in parts of southern Maine and is expected to reach two feet in some areas as winds of up to 60 mph lash coastal parts of the state.
