75 Evacuated from Lewiston Building Over CO Fears

LEWISTON, Maine - About 75 people were evacuated from a Lewiston building this morning after snow-clogged rooftop ventilation units caused a spike in carbon monoxide levels.

The building houses Internet data protection company Carbonite, along with a bowling center and a medical services company.

"When we arrived, some people left the building thinking they had symptoms and others were completely unawares," says Lewiston Fire Department Capt. Wallace Veilleux. "So we evacuated the building, addressed the problem, along with Unitil and Nadeau's Refrigeration."

Veilleux says people were allowed to re-enter the building after it was vented, a process which took about 2-and-a-half hours.
