Consumer Group Sues LePage Administration Over Health Care Oversight Cuts

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Consumer advocacy group Consumers for Affordable Health Care is suing the LePage Administration, over its cancellation of a contract that had the citizen group providing ombudsman services...offering assistance to people seeking services from MaineCare, Maine's medicaid program.

There's also a bill going before legislators to restore the ombudsman program.

"I think that the bill is another good way to address this issue," says Consumers for Affordable Health Care's Executive Director, Emily Brostek. "We're supportive of anything that's gonna insure that the state of Maine is providing these important services to Maine people."

Brostek says while her organization wants its contract restored for now; it would also be happy to see the ombudsmen contract put out to bid where other non-profits could compete for it.
