PORTLAND, Maine - An image of Acadia National Park's Bass Harbor Head Light atop rocky cliffs is the photograph being previewed today as the U.S. Postal Services rolls out the first of 16 "Forever" stamps being released over a 3-week period to celebrate the National Park Service's 100th anniversary.
National Park Service spokesperson Kathy Kupper says the 16 stamps were chosen from National Park sites across the county. She says some, like Acadia, are well-known, but others are not.
"There's cultural sites, natural sites, some urban, some rural," Kupper says, "and so it's a really nice mixture that, overall, paints a very nice picture of the National Park Service."
The first day of issue for the 16 National Park Forever stamps will be June 2, during World Stamp Show-NY 2016, scheduled for May 28 through June 4.
