Trick or treaters in several Maine communities will have to wait till the weekend to fill their candy bags. With hundreds of thousands still without power, officials from Brunswick to Bangor are asking residents to postpone Halloween festivities that send kids knocking door to door.
Bangor police Community Relations Officer Daniel Gastia says it’s a safety issue.
“Definitely a lot of debris on the ground still. There are low hanging wires, wires on the ground, crews are trying to get out there as quickly as they can. They’re doing an excellent job, but we’re trying to ensure the safety for everybody tonight, and that’s why we’re discouraging people from heading out,” he says.
While some communities have set an official rain — or storm — date, others, such as Portland, are asking residents to be extra cautious when trick or treating and to avoid streets that are without power.
