Maine's Low-Tech Deer Hunts Enter Final 2 Weeks

BANGOR, Maine - Maine's deer season is in its final two weeks, which are limited to people who seek their quarry with bows and arrows or muzzleloaders. The firearms season for deer ended last week, but the muzzleloader season starts on Monday and runs until Dec. 8. The second week of the season is limited to only a handful of Maine's wildlife management districts. Hunters are advised to check with state regulations before hunting.

The "expanded archery'' season is also still going on around urban parts of the state, and lasts until Dec. 8 as well. The state uses the season to allow deer hunters to seek the animals in parts of the state where the herd can withstand more hunting pressure. That includes areas around Bangor, Portland, Augusta and other cities.
