NEW YORK - Stephen King had a few things to say about diversity and they were not appreciated by some. King tweeted this week that he valued "quality" over diversity" in "matters of art." His comments came soon after this year's Academy Award nominees were announced and widely condemned for again favoring the work of white men in key categories.
Admirers of King, an outspoken liberal, were disheartened by his comments. Author Roxane Gay tweeted that "as a fan, this is painful to read." Filmmaker Ava DuVernay tweeted that his remarks were "backward and ignorant."
