PORTLAND, Maine - The City Council in Maine's largest city is looking to make sure a medical marijuana event scheduled for a public park isn't just an excuse for a raucous party.
The Portland Press Herald reports the Portland council is revisiting a permit request related to the event on Monday. City spokeswoman Jessica Grondin says a preliminary application approved by the council last month wasn't consistent with a final application submitted to city staff.
The event is scheduled for Aug. 9. The original application said it would be free. Organizers are now planning to charge a $10 admission fee.
Grondin says the city is concerned about event advertising that suggests marijuana products will be available for sale and consumption.
