AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine's top Republican legislative leaders met with Gov. Paul LePage Monday night at the Blaine House to express their concerns over his obscenity-laden voicemail left on Democratic Rep. Drew Gattine’s phone.

Senate President Mike Thibodeau, of Winterport, Rep. KenFredette, of Newport ,and Rep. Ellie Espling, of New Gloucester, spent more than an hour talking with LePage about their concerns.

Thibodeau says he expects to hear from the governor in the next day or two about what he will do to quell the uproar over his language.

“The governor is going to be speaking with his wife and some close friends about the discussion we had tonight, and I am sure he will be getting back to us with some of this thoughts,” Thibodeau says.

Fredette says the governor's language was unacceptable. "Gov. Paul LePage is the chief executive of the state of Maine, he’s the spokesman for the state of Maine. We expect him to behave in a certain way, and, as Republicans, we expect him to behave in a certain way. And that is part of what these discussions are about.”

Fredette says he expects the governor to cancel his planned town meeting in Westbrook, Gattine’s home town, that was scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Espling says the meeting was positive and she is hopeful there will be a positive outcome. But Democrats continue to call for the LePage's resignation.
