Maine Representatives Support Export-Import Bank
Maine's two U.S. House members voted Friday to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank that helps companies in Maine and other states export their products around the world.
The federal agency has helped Maine companies such as Baxter Brewing and the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound sell their products overseas.
“They need help with finding new markets overseas and with promoting their product, and that is some of the work of the Export Bank,” says 2nd District Congressman Jared Golden. Golden says the bank provides loans and other help to foreign buyers of U.S. goods, and that he and fellow Democrat, 1st District House Representative Chellie Pingree, supported the legislation.
“It’s certainly important here in Maine where a lot of businesses take advantage of the guaranteed loans to increase their opportunities to import and export,” Pingree says.
The measure faces a veto threat from President Trump, and the Republican-controlled Senate may not even consider the proposal.
