PORTLAND, Maine - Central Maine Power's New England Clean Energy Connect has awarded more than $300 million in contracts to upgrade transmission lines and clear land. CMP is moving forward with the project even though there could be a statewide vote and a few final regulatory approvals are pending.
Officials said Wednesday that the contract was awarded to Maine-based Cianbro in a joint venture with three other companies, Irby Construction, Sargent Electric and Northern Clearing Inc.
CMP's proposed $1 billion New England Clean Energy Connect would serve as a conduit for up to 1,200 megawatts of Canadian hydropower to reach the regional power grid.
