Maine AG Joins Other States In Suit Challenging Controversial USPS Changes

Maine Public
The suit alleges that the changes are unlawful and undermine effective operation of the U.S. Postal Service.

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey, along with several other states' attorneys general, will push ahead with a lawsuit challenging a complement of changes taking place at the U.S. Postal Service.

Those changes have come under congressional scrutiny after widespread complaints of delayed mail.

A spokesperson from the state attorney's office says the suit, which alleges that the changes are unlawful and undermine effective operation of the U.S. Postal Service, is going forward, despite promises from Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to "pause" those changes until after the 2020 election. They say the concerns raised in their complaint remain unanswered.

The complaint was filed Friday morning in U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania.

In addition to Maine and Pennsylvania, other states involved include California, Delaware, Massachusetts and North Carolina, as well as the District of Columbia.

A separate but similar suit has also been filed by the Attorney General of Washington state.
