U.S. Senate candidate Zak Ringelstein of Yarmouth, Maine was arrested Friday morning outside a facility in McAllen, Texas while attempting to deliver water, food, blankets, books and toys to children being held at the border in detention facilities.

At this time, the specific charges are not known. There has been no communication from Ringelstein since his arrest about 9:30 a.m. although staff has updated his social media accounts.

A video of Ringelstein's arrest was shared on Facebook.

Maine lawmakers will return to work next week for a special session to vote on a spending package and other bills that were left in limbo after adjournment.

Appearing Thursday on Maine Calling, Democratic House Speaker Sara Gideon and Republican Senate President Mike Thibodeau told Mal Leary that most members want to return to the State House and get the work done.
