PORTLAND, Maine — A scaled back version of a 3.25-acre residential and commercial development in Portland is encountering new resistance from the city's planning board.
The Portland Press Herald reports the board is ordering city staff to work with the project's Miami developer to come up with a better design for four six-story buildings dubbed the "midtown" project. The order is coming nearly a year after the board approved Federated Cos. initial plan for four 14-story high rise buildings. A group of residents who called themselves Keep Portland Livable challenged that approval in court.
Federated presented the scaled-down plan in October as part of an agreement with opponents to suspend the lawsuit. Federated wanted the city board to vote on the project in January, but the board wants its issues addressed first.
