AUGUSTA, Maine — A company that wants to build a $125 million tidal energy project in the state will hold meetings with state officials and investors this week to move the project forward.
The Portland Press Herald reports Halcyon Tidal Power wants to build a 1,616-foot tidal enclosure where the Pennamaquan River meets Cobscook Bay in Washington County. The company expects the project to create enough power for 13,000 homes. The company's president says the project would also make Maine a demonstration site for the technology that could attract worldwide attention.
Halcyon will meet Wednesday and Thursday with federal and state officials. A public meeting is slated for Pembroke's town offices on Friday.
The plant would use pressure from the bay's tidal range to drive turbines.
