Nova Star Sees Healthy Growth in July, August

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Company officials say the Nova Star ferry that runs between Portland, Maine, to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, is starting to see some healthy growth.

The company said Friday that 17,255 people have booked trips on the new vessel in August, for an average of 557 passengers per day. That compares with 13,043 passengers in July, an average of 421 passengers per day.

In June, 6,791 passengers boarded the vessel.

Mark Amundsen, president and CEO of Nova Star Cruises, says part of the growth has been by strong word-of-mouth recommendations from people who've ridden the car ferry.
