BIDDEFORD, Maine — The former Hostess Brands bakery site in Biddeford has been put back on the market with an asking price of $11.7 million.
Hostess filed for bankruptcy and shut down the factory in 2012, putting 380 people out of work. The facility was beset by years of financial problems and a strike.
A New York-based private equity firm that specializes in buying and selling food manufacturing facilities and other corporate assets bought the site for almost $7 million last month and a week later put it back on the market.
The property includes a 265,000-square-foot building and a 40-acre lot.
Daniel Stevenson, Biddeford's director of economic development, tells the Portland Press Herald that the sale of the site for commercial use would be good news for the community.
