Mills: Maine Cooperating in Lottery Rigging Investigation

AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine Attorney General Janet Mills says the state has been cooperating with other states in the criminal investigation of the former security chief of the Multi-State Lottery Association that operates many of the games offered by the Maine State Lottery.

Eddie Lipton was convicted in Iowa of rigging the winning numbers in the Hot Lotto game. "None of the games offered in Maine, contributed to by Maine or won by any Maine citizens were subject of this criminal trial," Mills says.

Mills says she is concerned that anyone at the Multi-State Lottery Association was in a position to rig a game. She says most games are not vulnerable to manipulation, but she is urging that security at the national group be bolstered to make sure it doesn't happen again.
