Analysts expect gas prices in Maine to be fairly stable through the rest of the summer. Gasbuddy's Patrick DeHaan anticipates prices to stay 15 to 20 cents on either side of the current state average of $2.83 a gallon.
“I don't think we'll see prices breach $3.00, barring any unforeseeable issues, but they probably won't sink a whole lot lower either,” says DeHaan.
The current $2.83 statewide average is a penny less than at this time both last week and last month, and is essentially the same as the national average. DeHaan says the slip in prices is consistent with what's being seen across the country.
“Oil prices today are about $68 a barrel, that's down from $75 two weeks ago, and has opened the door up for falling gas prices.”
The drop in pump prices follows a reduction in the price of crude oil influenced by the resumption of oil exports by Libya. DeHaan says, in addition, signs are pointing to greater oil production from both Russia and Saudi Arabia.
