BELFAST, Maine - A Norwegian company that wants to build a large salmon farming operation in Maine says it's going to meet with the public next week to give residents an idea of the project's progress.Nordic Aquafarms hopes to build the farm in Belfast. The facility would be an inland farm capable of producing tens of millions of pounds of fish per year.
The company says it will hold the public meeting on March 26 at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast. It says it will use the meeting to provide the public with information about its permit applications. The company plans to take comments from the public.
Nordic Aquafarms has said applications for key permits it needs to move the project forward have been submitted to the Maine Board of Environmental Protection.
