Maine Unemployment Up Slightly In January
Unemployment in Maine rose by two-tenths of a percent in January, to 5.2%. But the state Labor Department reports 2,000 more jobs were created that month, the biggest since last September.
Jobs increased in the private sector and, more significantly, in the public sector, which had seen a decline every month since last August.
Officials say the jobless rate rose in January because more Mainers went looking for work.
