Anne Dodson and Friends

Anne Dodson and Friends

Anne Dodson & Friends 33rd Annual Winter Program

For over 30 years Anne Dodson and her many talented friends have rung in the holiday season with a concert that celebrates the turning of the year. It will be held on Sunday, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the First Congregational Church in Camden.

Joining Anne will be the the usual stalwart crew: The Quasimodal Chorus, The January men (and then some), Matt Szostak, Will Brown & David Dodson along with “first timers” including Alice Limoges and Josh Bogin. There may even be a surprise guest this year!

Alice Limoges spent 7 years in the New York City area and we are delighted to have her back in the midcoast where she spent her childhood. She brings her impressive skills to the concert as a songwriter, instrumentalist and singer and blends into the local music scene both musically and personally! She has recently released a new four song EP of original material called “Where the Mountains Meet the Sea.”

Josh Bogin has worked as a civil rights lawyer, public school reformer and college professor, but his abiding and truest love (other than family) remains the world of music that has surrounded him since earliest childhood. His father was a concert pianist who didn’t sing and his mom was an early childhood educator who couldn’t carry a tune but sang to and surrounded Josh & his 2 sisters with the music of Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. Josh recorded two children’s albums for Folkways with kids he worked with at an innovative Philadelphia school back in the 70’s, and continues to take joy in the sharing of great songs. Bogins and Dodsons have been like family to each other since 1964, where both families summered in Deer Isle.

As always, the concert challenges the definition of “seasonal,” including traditional and contemporary songs from around the world. The concert is the closing event of "Christmas by the Sea," Camden's annual weekend of holiday festivities. “Anne Dodson and Friends” is a warm, informal concert, where the musicians take delight in blurring the line between performer and audience as together the community wraps up another year.

Doors open at 6:30 PM and advance tickets are available at Lily, Lupine & Fern in Camden and at Rock City Cafe in Rockland. Tickets may also be reserved in advance, to be held at the door. Adults: $13 advance, $15 suggested donation at the door. Children (6 -12): $6 in advance, $7 suggested donation at the door. Free under 6 years. Refreshments will be served.
