Winter Harbor Music First Friday Concert Series; Downeast Chamber Orchestra
Downeast Maine’s only community orchestra, conducted by Deiran Manning, will perform works by Mozart, Beethoven and Rossini on the Winter Harbor Music First Friday concert series at Hammond Hall on October 3rd. The program will spotlight the orchestra’s concertmaster, Richard Hsu and founder, Deirdre McArdle.
Violinist Richard Hsu is an active soloist and chamber musician. Richard has performed with Orchestra of St. Luke's, Clarion Society, Early Music New York, American Classical Orchestra, and Concert Royal. He was formerly associate concertmaster of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and is currently a member of the Bangor Symphony and concertmaster of the Downeast Chamber Orchestra.
Deirdre is the daughter of the American Modernist painter, Patrick McArdle. She was a member of the faculty at Manhattan School of Music and Bowdoin College before moving to Gouldsboro and has given masterclasses and performances in Israel, Italy, France, and Ireland. Memorable concerts include the South Bank Center in London, Weill Recital Hall, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, and Alice Tully Hall. New York Times music reviewer Tim Page praised her playing: “…she produced an unusually full and lustrous sound from her flute, alternately languorous and darting,” in a program that was, “a brilliant challenge for a virtuosic flutist.”
