Every summer (June-August) we host a weekly group paddle for sea kayakers from June through August. These one-hour sessions are a chance for local paddlers to get on the water together in the early morning when seas on Casco Bay are more likely to be calm.
These paddles are led by our staff, who are happy to share their knowledge, but these are not guided trips and you should not join if you need instruction or assistance in order to participate. Please consider taking one of our lessons or joining a tour if you are new to sea kayaking.

The Sea Kayak Navigation Skills Weekend Workshop is designed to teach the essential skills for navigating coastal waters. We focus specifically on managing challenging conditions typical of Maine, including strong winds, swift currents, and fog. Students will learn various approaches to navigating with a chart and compass and gain firsthand experience using these skills while paddling on Casco Bay. There will be time for students to practice taking bearings, dead reckoning, triangulation, crossing boat channels, paddling in low visibility and using aids to navigation. After gaining familiarity with the key navigation tools, resources, and skills during the first day of the course, students will plan a trip for the second day that will give them opportunities to practice what they have learned.

Each year, over 1,200 women gather in South Portland to swim, bike & run as they TRI for a Cure in Maine's largest fundraising triathlon.
Founded in 2008, TRI for a Cure has become the largest triathlon in the state of Maine, providing a gorgeous race course along the shores of Cape Elizabeth and South Portland. This event consists of a USAT-sanctioned 1/3-mile swim, a 15-mile bike ride and a 3-mile run.
The Tri for a Cure is a unique opportunity for women to engage in the fight against cancer here in Maine. Our triathletes share a unique bond; some are cancer survivors, others are racing in support of their loved ones, but all of them share the desire to create a cancer-free Maine.
Today, thanks to the efforts of thousands of supporters, there are effective treatments for many forms of cancer with the promise of more to come. 2026 marks the 19th annual Tri for a Cure and we invite you to show your support. Some people choose to become athletes or fundraisers, others join us as volunteers or sponsors, some come and cheer the athletes on. What matters most is our commitment to the women and men who suffer from this terrible disease. WE WILL NOT WAIT. WE WILL NOT QUIT. WE WILL TRI FOR A CURE!

This course will teach you how to roll a kayak — an invaluable safety skill that’s also endlessly fun. We’ll spend most of the time in the water mastering a series of techniques that will lead to an actual attempt at the roll. If you haven’t rolled by the end of the course, you’ll leave knowing what you need to do to get there. This course, which is limited to five students, is taught by Portland Paddle’s most experienced ACA-certified instructors. You may also have an opportunity to work on other kayaking skills, such as bracing, edging and alternative self-rescues.
