Every summer we host two weekly group paddles for sea kayakers and stand-up paddlers from June through August. These one-hour sessions are a chance for local paddlers to get on the water together in the early morning when seas on Casco Bay are more likely to be calm.
It’s free to join if you bring your own SUP or sea kayak, or if you’re a Portland Paddle member. If you aren’t a member and need to rent a kayak or SUP, the cost is $25.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early so we can start our group paddles on time. For members and those renting a kayak/SUP, we ask that you make a rental booking at least 8 hours in advance. (If you’re a member, remember to enter your member code when you book). Using your own vessel? No need to make any reservations in advance; just show up. These paddles are led by our staff, who are happy to share tips, but they are not guided trips and you should not join if you need instruction or assistance in order to participate. The group will stay on the water for about an hour and will pick a destination that fits the conditions and participants.
Growing Routes offers a different camp experience where kids flourish in a relaxed, small-group, family-like atmosphere. Nestled on 84 enchanting acres in mid-coast Union, Maine, Twigg Farm is a haven of rolling fields, woods, nature trails, an apple orchard, food and flower gardens, a frog pond, and a private beach on the lake—an endless, magical playground for exploration. Campers enjoy fresh, farm-to-table meals (including homemade ice cream of course!) and evenings filled with the sounds of nature. We focus on nurturing confidence, creativity, and compassion throughout everything we do.
One and two week sessions available for ages 8-16.

Hike to one of Acadia’s iconic summits AND help Acadia National Park’s efforts to restore native vegetation!
Acadia National Park, in collaboration with Friends of Acadia and Schoodic Institute, invites tenacious hikers to bring bags of soil to the summits of Penobscot and Sargent Mountains. You’ll get to choose how much soil you’ll carry – carrying as little as five pounds (about the size of a large freezer ziplock bag) is a huge help! This soil is integral to the ongoing summit restoration efforts in Acadia National Park.
Do you row your boat? Sail it? Does it have a motor? Young visitors will enjoy learning about boat basics with their families during this Jr. Adventurers program, including making a paper boat and floating in it in our washtub.
Get a little more out of your visit to Penobscot Marine Museum when you stop by during Jr. Adventurers! These weekly drop-in programs are designed for children and their families to have fun at the museum. Each will explore a different topic that relates to our exhibits. Families can read together, do a craft, play a game, and go on a scavenger hunt. Plus, visit with Mr. Ropes, PMM’s cat puppet ambassador at 11am and 1:45pm.
Jr. Adventurers has been generously sponsored by Camden National Wealth Management.
