The Town of Union is celebrating its 250th anniversary July 19, 20, 21, 2024. The 3-day event will be kicked off with the opening ceremony on Friday, July 19th, at 4:00 PM on the Common with dedications, proclamations, and opening of the time capsule that was buried in 1974 during their bicentennial celebration. Friday activities also include a scavenger hunt on the Common for children, a pie social, food vendors, viewing of video footage from the bicentennial. Friday evening will be closed out by a free concert at the Union Fairgrounds.
Saturday, July 20th, will start with a pancake breakfast, followed by a bus tour, children's activities, walking tours, Company B of 20th Maine demonstrations, a parade, authors reading of "The Lobster Lady", traditional arts demonstrations, beard contest, chicken BBQ, vintage car drive-in, musical entertainment on the Common, Woodside One Wheelers, a sheep dog demo, Union Community Voices film showing. The day will end with a silent movie showing accompanied by a pianist at the Old Town House.
Sunday, July 21st, activities include a gospel music hour on the Common followed by a non-denominational church service on the Common, bounce houses, Corporal Cobb Camp #68 informational table, a cornhole tournament, antique auction, softball game, Pine Tree Boating Club gathering, children's activities, cake and ice cream, walking tour, and then the closing ceremony will start at 3:00. The closing ceremony will be opened by Corporal George Samuel Cobb Camp #68 and will include laying of wreaths to honor the town's veterans, raffle drawings, dedication of trees, and burying of the Sestercentennial time capsule.
