Free Books Saturday is a day to browse free gently used and sorted, good quality books for all ages.
Experience the joy of lambs and help us welcome the Farm’s newest arrivals! Join us to see the flock cozied up in their winter quarters, with ewes watching over their rambunctious little lambs. Farmer managers April and Ro as well as some of the student staff will be on hand to introduce you to our animals and answer all your burning questions!
Hot chocolate and Tea will be available and we’ll also have a small table display to showcase our fiber and other farm products.
This event is free and open to the public - families welcome!
We encourage visitors to carpool as parking is limited. Please also dress warmly and wear sturdy, waterproof shoes. Experience the fun and magic of theater on Saturday mornings with Play Me a Story! Ages 4 – 10 enjoy a performance of children’s stories followed by an interactive acting workshop with Portland Stage’s Education Artists for $15. Sign up for the month and save or pick individual days that work for you. Financial aid is available. Build literacy, encourage creativity and spark dramatic dreams!
Play Me a Story takes place in person at Portland Stage’s Theater for Kids on Saturday mornings from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Doors open at 10:00, 10:30 performance, followed by an interactive workshop from 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM, with everything wrapped up by 12:00 PM.
All books featured in Play Me a Story are presented with permission from the publishers and/or authors.
Join local expert Matthew Jude Barker as he discusses topics from his most recent works, “Becoming American, Portland, Maine’s Irish and the Making of Immigrant America, 1840-1861” and “The Blue and the Green, The Irish of Portland Maine During the Civil War”. He will bring to life an amazingly transformative era in Portland history, discussing events such as the Great Hunger, immigration, Neal Dow and prohibition, bootlegging and crime, the "Rum Riot”, the Know-Nothings and nativists, Irish occupations, abolition, the railroad, the Panic of 1857, the war years, the Fenians, the Great Fire of July 4, 1866, and the dedication of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, among many other topics.
Saturday, February 28th from 1:30PM-7:30PM
Learn the basics of torch firing and fusing colored powdered glass enamel onto vintage pennies or copper shapes to create colorful metal pieces. The materials fee of $40 includes all necessary materials, such as handouts, enamels, opalescent, stringers, ear wires and leather for pendants, and display cards for gift giving. This class will teach you the ancient technique of adding color to metals.
$99 workshop fee does not include materials.
The materials kit is $40 and will be available to purchase from the instructor at the beginning of the workshop.
(For safety, be sure to wear closed toe shoes and have long hair pulled back with clips or in a ponytail.)
We will have a 20-minute break, so feel free to bring a snack.
Laura’s workshops are open to teens ages 13 and up when accompanied by an adult.
